The beignet (pronounced bĕn-yā) is a staple of the New Orleans food experience. Originally brought over by the Acadians as a fritter-like pastry, today's beignets are more like square doughnuts with no holes. Typically covered with powdered sugar (and we do mean covered!), having a breakfast of beignets and coffee is as New Orleans as you can get.
